One of those self-indulgent posts

So, I'm sitting here at work, eight hours into my twelve and a half hour shift, thinking about soda. This is what I'm drinking now:

This is what I wish I were drinking:
That's right, I wish I was drinking what looks like 5 12-packs, 47 12-ounce cans, and 6 20-ounce bottles of surge. ALL AT ONE TIME!
What does this have to do with science fiction and/or fantasy? Nothing. Except Surge was definately a soda before its time. It was an innovator. It pushed the bounds of the future.
Yes, it's 2:30 in the morning and I'm tired. Back to Surge.
Do you remember the spout soda cans had before Surge? They were long and skinny versus short and fat. Soda flowed slower through the mouth of the can. But Surge was meant to be drank fast. So they innovated the new mouth which made it possible to drink wonderfully caffeinated soda that looked like radiator fluid but still tasted a lot better than any energy drink on the market today. If I remember right, it was even better than Mountain Dew.
According to Wikipedia, Surge started in Norway and was called Urge. Norway is now the only country where the old Urge is sold. I wonder if I could find some on ebay.
Now there's this drink called Vault, that the company claims tastes similar (it doesn't, I could drink Surge). But it lacks a large part of what made Surge cool--The Radioactive Green Color!
Okay, this post looks weird, but again, I'm tired. And I realized it's been over a week since my last post. So, for anyone who actually reads this--there you go.

Pictures from The Dark Knight

Batman realizes that the next version of the batsuit needs to come equipped with a cup.

The Breakfast Club is in trouble again. And at least two of them showed up to detention in bat suits. Weird.
Call me a dork, but a computer system like this would be cool. Until it crashed.
Wasn't this scene from Shakespeare?
I can see the wire. I thought bats could fly. Though seriously, I've always loved Batman because he's a superhero with no super powers. Unless being stinking rich is a super power.
Heath Ledger does not look impressed.
I surrender...to...myself? But Batman carrying an assault rifle is kind of cool.
Good thing he's in that batsuit. The insurance companies would have a field day with this.
Good. No nipple suit. We know this movie won't suck. Just don't call George Clooney.
Hey, my face often looks like that when I'm vandalizing something too.
The Batcycle. Ooh. Aah.
Um, this is a repeat pic. Not sure how that happened. Not sure how to fix it either.
Hey, don't make fun of my running mascara. At least I'm not a gay cowboy this time. "Not that there's anything wrong with that."
I'm rich, good looking, and I'm Batman. Eat that, whoever I'm talking to.
Oh, and I have a British butler.
The thing about Batman is he doesn't really have this thing about not hitting the bad guy. If you're bad, you're going to get hit. I watched Batman Returns recently, and I noticed that Michael Keaton blew one of the bad guys up. Awesome.
Yeah, I can afford an iPhone. That's because I'm Bruce Wayne, and I'm a billionaire. I can even afford to have the battery changed.
Don't kill her, Joker! They fixed the one screw up of the first movie. They got rid of Katie Holmes and replaced her with Maggie Gyllenhaal.
We got the batsuit back from the cleaners. They mentioned you signed 'Batman' again. You really should be more careful about this secret identity thing. Oh, and they mentioned something about a nipple suit?

The Dark Knight opens July 18, 2008. Just after my birthday. Happy birthday to me.

Star Trek 11: The Wrath of Russell Crowe

So, according to this site, Russell Crowe is in talks to play the bad guy in the next Star Trek movie. Okay, I can get into that. You've got major star power, Crowe is a great actor, and his reportedly bad attitude would work well with a bad guy. I'm getting excited about this movie. It seems it will be more like Star Trek 2, and less like Star Trek 1.

Oh, and here's a picture of Crowe:

Say it, man. Say it. "On Earth, three hundred years ago, I was a prince, adored by millions."

Or something like that.

My dream job

This is what I would do with my time (besides writing) if I ever had more time and money than I needed. I would open a soda shop!

But I'd also have a bookstore specializing in science fiction, fantasy, and horror novels. I heard of a guy in California who opened one such store and found success. Independent bookstores normally don't do well against the big chains, but a specialized store can find a niche because the store employees know more about the genre they're into.

And last, I'd have an ice cream store selling soft serve. Everyone loves soft serve, even the lactose intolerant love soft serve, they just can't handle it.

And by the way, yes, those drawings look like they were done by a three year old. I don't have photoshop, and I'm just starting on this sort of stuff, so I thought I'd start small. Perhaps in time I'll evolve :)

Sometimes I hate when I'm right

Fox, already losing confidence in one of their shows, at decided to postpone it until January. New Amsterdam, a show about an immortal detective, will be delayed so they can keep a successful game show running. So now two of the shows on Fox I wanted to see, this, and The Sarah Connor Chronicles, will be starting in January. Why would a network constantly green-light shows only to back out at the last minute. Fox did this to Firefly, Drive, and, several years ago, Sliders. How do they expect these shows to make it if they don't give them a chance? I hate Fox.

A Self-Serve World

I read this headline today, "First it was gas stations. Then it was banks. Now it's supermarkets. Pretty soon, we'll live in an entirely self-serve world" I thought, why not? When I go to the grocery store I can usually check myself through much faster than the cashiers and I know that you don't put heavy stuff with eggs and bread and you don't put meat with detergent. These are things that you would think are common sense, but apparently, there really is no such thing.

Yes, please, let me do it myself. And give me a discount for it. I pump my own gas, I scan and sack my own groceries. If I'm going to be doing my own work, give me a benefit for it.

2007 TV Schedule

Here are some of the shows I'm going to check out next month.

NCIS
Season Premiere September 25th at 7pm central on CBS

This show is about the Navy's version of CSI, only I like the characters better.
Bionic Woman
Season Premiere September 26th at 8pm central on NBC

Here is a revamp of a classic series. The question: Will the network be able to make this show, well, not stupid? The good news: It's not on Fox. The bad news: It's on NBC. Being the scifi fan that I am, I hoping it makes it.

Scrubs
Thursdays at 8:30pm central on NBC

I believe this is the seventh season of this show, so its time might almost be up. I've been catching up on the series recently, and I love it.

New Amsterdam
Season Premiere September 25th at 7pm central on Fox

John Amsterdam was a Dutch soldier that came to America in 1642 and visited what was then New Amsterdam, and what is now New York City. He saved some Indian chick's life and she granted him immortality until he finds true love. So, what does he do now? He's a detective. I think it might be good, so I'll check it out. Since it's on Fox, I better do it fast because you never know how long it will stay around.

Bones
Wednesdays at 8 central on Fox

Miracle of miracles, this is a good show that has made it on Fox. Heading for its third season, the show hasn't gotten tired. The one difficulty is that when American Idol starts its hard to figure out when to tune in for the show.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Starts Sundays in 2008 at 8pm central on Fox

This takes place after Terminator 2. That's a plus. It's on Fox. That's a minus. It's a mid-season replacement. That's a minus. It stars Summer Glau, who I love, but was on Firefly, which I loved, but is also a minus (anyone remember Fox's Drive with Nathan Fillion? Yeah.)

That said, This is probably the one new show I'm most excited about. I like the idea, I like at least one of the cast members (Glau), I just hope Fox doesn't screw it up the way they have many other shows. We'll have to wait and see.

Notes:
I didn't include any cable shows because I don't have cable. Sure, I'd like to watch the Dresden Files, Battlestar Galactic, and the various incarnations of Stargate, but I'll just have to wait for them on DVD.

Also, Smallville got bumped from my viewing schedule last year because it started to really suck. I might have to check it out again this year. It's entering it's seventh season, so it might be the last.
